Living and loving on my own terms, within my means in the company of beloved family and friends.

My worth as a human being is no longer defined by my work, my employer, my income, my college "pedigree," or even having grown up in Palo Alto.
To me, being successful means...
being a happy and productive citizen of the world.
My definition of success has changed over time.
I used to think success was dictated by the brand names that made it onto your resume. Letting go of those expectations for myself was the most productive decision I have ever made.
To me, being successful means...
being happy. In high school, I was over-competitive, overstressed, overbooked. And, I felt god awful all of the time because I just felt like I had to be the best. Now that I'm in college, I just want to do things that I'm passionate about and that make me happy. But yet, in doing that, I feel like I'm accomplishing far more than I had in high school, even though in high school I was trying much harder.

Obviously, my self-worth is no longer defined by my GPA or my college acceptances. It's refreshing.
To me, being successful means...
Being happy with yourself and seeing as much as the world has to offer as possible.

I used to think money and status was the most important thing. I realized rich and powerful people were still unhappy with themselves.
To me, being successful means...
Being balanced.

It used to be more about money and material things, now it is about being happy.

knowing myself and being able to apply my strengths and talents to make a difference in the world. it also means having a few good friends and a loving family.

Realizing that all those "resume-builders" matter very little in the long run. I spent a long time trying to be the kind of person my parents wanted me to be and used it as an excuse not to do the hard work of figuring out what do do with my life.
To me, being successful means...
. . . following the Lord Jesus Christ in all that I say and do.

It used to be worldly success and now it means following Christ.

Always treating others the way you would like to be treated. In other words, following the golden rule.

When I was younger, I thought material possessions reflected success.

actualizing your goals

success for me today is defined in more personal ways, whereas when I was younger I looked to others for clues on what it means to be successful
To me, being successful means...
I think success is being generally happy with what you are doing. I don't mean overjoyed happy every minute of every day but I am achieving success when I wake up ready to start the day and go to bed feeling I accomplished something and had time for those I love. I also think success is making that happen while balancing my family/friends and being there for them and enjoying my time with them as much as I can.

Growing up I thought of success as being the most educated I could be and then working the hardest to get the highest paying job or best job title no matter what sacrifices I had to make in my own life. Honestly, I have none of the above things now (except the education piece perhaps) and I feel better about my life then ever.
